Kaya LeGrand
Graduate Student
Psychological Sciences
Kaya is a third-year PhD student studying language development in people with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Her current work focuses on verb production in children with ASD. Before coming to UConn, she worked as a speech-language pathologist at a residential school for autistic students, many of whom were minimally verbal and/or used augmentative/alternative communication devices. Generally, Kaya is interested in studying the language and communication abilities of low/minimally verbal and nonverbal individuals on the autism spectrum, and she would ultimately like to contribute to our understanding of why some people do not learn to produce language.
